Northern Pike
Valens pike have one source-backed starting line: the open pockets beside the dam. The expert angler account puts that water at an average 5–7 feet and calls it shared bass-and-pike territory; HCA's master plan confirms the reservoir reaches its 4.6-metre maximum at Valens Dam. That is a narrow pattern, but it is real — and HCA still names northern pike among the lake's core fish in 2026.

Work from the physical fact outward. Valens is a shallow 76-hectare reservoir, and its deepest verified water lies at the dam.
The Canadian Sportfishing source identifies open pockets in that dam-area zone as the pike-and-bass pattern, so pike anglers have a named place to begin without inventing weedlines or contours the sources never mapped. The lake's official inventory also includes shiners, sunfish, perch, suckers, and bullheads, giving pike a documented forage community.
Winter supplies a second window: the FMZ 16 pike season runs January 1 through March 31, and HCA permits ice fishing when conditions allow. Then HCA closes the whole lake from April 1 until the fourth Saturday in June.
Open-water fishing resumes from that Saturday through fall.
